Asher Media Becomes WBENC-Certified

Dallas-based Asher Media, Inc. recently announced its certification as a majority-owned women’s business by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the top advocate for women-owned businesses in the nation.
Accepted by hundreds of U.S. corporations and a number of federal, state and local government agencies, WBENC certification is an important tool for expanding a company's visibility among decision-makers in corporate supply chain diversity and procurement organizations, according to WBENC’s website.
WBENC certification grants Asher Media a range of benefits, including:

  • Access to procurement events such as the Parade of Stars Awards Gala, Southwest Women’s businessWORKS!, Harvesting Partnerships and Power To Potential
  • Access to and inclusion in WBECLink, a searchable Internet database that includes more than 1,000 corporate contacts and 11,000 certified women-owned businesses across the U.S.
  • Search the Regional Directory of Certified WBEs and Sustaining Members through central and north Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas for key contact information

In addition, Asher Media will be listed in WBENCLink, an Internet database that contains information on women’s businesses across the nation.
“We’re very proud of our recent WBENC certification,” said Kalyn Asher, founder and president of Asher Media. “Being a WBENC-certified business offers a lot of advantages in the corporate world, and we’ll now have opportunities to network and explore partnerships with other women-owned businesses at regional and national events.”

Asher Media Wins EFH Gold Star Award

In recognition of its commitment to exemplary service, Dallas-based Asher Media, Inc. recently received a Gold Star Supplier Award, presented by Energy Future Holdings (EFH) at its 23rd annual Supplier Diversity Gold Star Recognition Reception. EFH’s Supplier Diversity Gold Star Recognition program awards minority-, women- and veteran-owned businesses for their achievements in several categories, including: hiring a diverse workforce, working with a diverse supplier base, providing outstanding service to EFH and contributing to communities through volunteer and philanthropic commitments.

“Being recognized as a Gold Star supplier is definitely a badge we want to tout,” said Kalyn Asher, founder and president of Asher Media. “Earning the award not only assures new clients of our attention to detail and service, but also recognizes our employees and highlights what we’ve done as a company and team.”

A national leader in supplier diversity, EFH spent $280 million with diverse suppliers in 2013, when its companies — TXU Energy, Luminant and Oncor — had a cumulative spend of $4.85 billion.

"When good suppliers have the opportunity to compete and win, they do so with competitive pricing, quality service, a record of innovation backed by excellence, and a commitment to mutual success for their companies and their customers,” said Cheryl Stevens, Vice President of Supplier Diversity at EFH. "Our Gold Star Suppliers do all of these, and they are committed to workplace diversity, diversity in their own supplier base and the support of their communities through philanthropic and volunteer efforts.”

Asher Media blazes new trails during anniversary retreat

To commemorate the agency’s 10th anniversary, Asher Media hosted all employees at a company retreat, June 18–20, at Rough Creek Lodge & Resort in Granbury, Texas.

Located in the foothills of the Texas Hill Country, Rough Creek is an 11,000 acre property featuring hunting, fishing and a wide variety of other outdoor activities.

The theme for the getaway was “Blaze a New Trail”, where Kalyn asked each employee to challenge themselves by trying something they had never tried before.

To get things started, the group broke into teams for a GPS Navigational Challenge.  Each guided team used GPS navigation in a search for a yellow marker scattered around the Rough Creek property.

In order to move to the next market, each team had to first complete a series of tasks, which included paintball, archery, fishing and shooting, followed by trivia questions about Asher Media and Rough Creek Lodge.

In the end, the teams learned a lot about each other and Asher Media, and even developed a few new outdoor skills in the process.

After all that work, the group was given a day to enjoy the rest of the resort’s features on their own.  Some tested their adventurous sides on the bungee trampolines, while others conquered their fears by hurtling down the 675-foot zip line.  Many chose to simply relax by the pool or visit Rough Creek’s spa.

The event culminated with a gala dinner and reception during which Kalyn Asher presented Jackie Barrera with a necklace commemorating her 10-year anniversary with the agency.  The night ended with roasted marshmallows, s’mores and stories by the fire pit.

Everyone at Asher Media looks forward to the next ten years and the next anniversary adventure!

Asher Media contributes more than $10,000 for American Cancer Society

In our second year of participation in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event, Asher Media generated more than $10,000 in contributions and sponsorships. The North Dallas event raised more than $68,000 for the American Cancer Society, and included over 400 participants. Our "Austin Powers" setup was a groovy success during this year's "Lights, Camera, Relay!" themed event.

It was a great night as we took turns walking the track throughout the event. Relay for Life symbolizes the hope that people lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face the disease have support, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

Asher Media extends special thanks to everyone who provided their time and financial support!
